Coming Sippungen and special evenings
🦉 Guests welcome! You are free to look in on our events as a guest, without obligation. No admission, no commitment — simply have a look and experience the Schlaraffen game for yourself. A short word beforehand is welcome.
An evening for the Rhine valley, held in Pennsylvania. The Circle of Friends is invited, and anyone who cannot tell Riesling from Schuylkill water will learn tonight.
Online at eight: Susan Macdowell Eakins, painter of Philadelphia, long overshadowed by her husband and far too good for that. An evening about someone worth knowing.
First the Schlaraffiade, then the Ahalla ceremony: we remember the Sassen who rode ahead of us. Solemn, but not heavy – just as they would have wanted it.
An evening for Udo Jürgens, honorary Schlaraffe and man at the piano. Merci, Chérie – and whoever does not know the words simply hums along.
Online at eight: Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, father of gymnastics and inventor of the parallel bars. We shall nevertheless remain seated.
The largest organ in the world stands in a Philadelphia department store, and a bronze eagle sits in front of it. Both are reason enough for a Sippung.
Closing date for first-class Fernfechser submissions. Anyone who has not sent anything in by today must compose an excuse tomorrow – and that does not count.
The Uhubaum ceremony – Schlaraffia's Christmas. Candles, the Circle of Friends, and songs you can still hit after the third glass.
Everyone brings a favourite Fechsung – their own or someone else's. Whoever cannot decide brings two and talks faster.
Annie Oakley shot the cigarette from the Crown Prince's hand – so the story goes. Tonight we examine it for truth, rigorously, but without firearms.
The 47th Bell Congress on the theme "High above the lowly life of earth". In the castle and, where possible, online – so the North Atlantic can listen in too.
Online at eight: the eagle and the owl. Two birds, two countries, one evening – and the question which of them looks the wiser.
An evening for the honorary Schlaraffen who are close to us – geographically, intellectually, or simply at heart.
Feuerzangenbowle with the Circle of Friends. The sugarloaf burns, the rum does its duty, and sooner or later everyone knows the film by heart.
Online at eight: working through the past. It sounds like filing cabinets, but it becomes an evening about what remains when one looks honestly.
Renewing the passports and finding the themes for 168 and 169. Administration, yes – but Schlaraffian administration, so in rhyme.
Marksmen's feast and a Sippung for our parent Reych: we celebrate good aim and thank the spring we flowed from.
Online at eight: this art makes you scream. Whether with laughter or despair is for each Sasse to decide.
The grumbling Sippung, and on April the first of all days. Complaints are permitted tonight – in rhyme, of course, and one per Sasse.
Election Schlaraffiade: first the voting, then the laughter. You can tell from the jesters' tales that the Sassen have been looking forward to this.
Online at eight: music and more. The "and more" is there on purpose – with Schlaraffen you never know what else is coming.
Spring celebration with the Circle of Friends, on a Saturday at two in the afternoon. Outside it is finally warming up; inside it has been warm all winter anyway.
Summer is over and the owls are well rested. To open the season the Sassen pool everything that happened between the Schuylkill and the Atlantic – rhymed, su…
